 The Run...

The Hairy Legs run course is a varied route of 5 Hairy Legs Kilometres and covers a wide variety of terrain and scenery. The run has three distinct characters, the first gentle climb on lanes (with one steep section) is followed by a descent through the chalk woods and finally opens into fields for the final stretch back to Sheepcot Field.  On event day, the course is fully marshalled and you won't need this guide, but the map and directions below should give you a chance to get some practice in and hopefully improve on your time!  The course given here is slightly different from the event as it stays on public footpaths through the woods.

Parking
Parking can be found either in the small car park by the playing fields (at the start of the route) or at Goring station. On the weekends, the playing fields car park can get busy. Please note that the station car park is pay-and-display

 Route Description

From the playing-fields car park, head out to the junction with the road and take a left turn, heading towards Gatehampton Manor. The road continues out of the village, through open fields until you reach a forked junction. Take the left hand fork climbing up through  some overhanging trees. Continue straight on past a few houses on the right and side of the road until you reach a sharp left hand bend.  There is a footpath straight on but stay left on the road and continue up the hill to the farm buildings at the top.

The road takes a 'S' bend through the farm and past a metal 5 bar gate - this may be closed but there is access on foot to the right of the gate.  From the gate continue up the straight road until the road bears right between 2 barns.  Here take the footpath marked to the left along a narrow footpath with a barbed wire fence on the left.

On entering the woods continue straight on running between two bushes on the largest path.  Keep on this path for approximately 1/2km there are a number of bends in the path but continue until after one left hand turn there is a clear footpath turning left down a gentle incline

Take this path and continue on as another joins from the right.  Eventually you will reach a cross path where you need to go stright over but this is quickly followed by another cross path where you turn sharp left and stay left for about 100m.  There is a path coming in at right angle from the left but go straight on down hill (500m) until you reach a kissing gate.

There is a short path with low covering trees (duck if you are over 5.8' ) and another kissing gate will appear.  This opens out into a large field.  Continue (run!) up the right hand edge of the field to the top of the hill and along the top of the field with views over the river to Streatley.  Carry on along this path running down the hill entering the top of Sheepcot Field for the final sprint finish.
